Human beings and animals share similar things, but do we realize how complicated a human being is. There is communication, language, critical thinking, mathematics, social behavior, walking, and much more that only humans can do.
The becoming of humanity takes a big risk if left to something random like natural selection. In other words, it is hard to become a human being. We will talk about it more on January 14th, but in Genesis 2:7, God breathed within the nostrils and formed from the dust in the ground a living creature: a homo divinus (Collins, Adam & Eve, 123). Something distinct, something like God.
All of creation makes much of God, and showcases who He is. However, a human being is distinct, bearing God’s image. Resembles God. We are given the a task to fill the earth and subdue it. Tame the rest of the world, and make it like the garden of Eden. Much like God took chaos (Genesis 1:1-2), and made life.
You are special as human being, so don’t let anybody tell you otherwise.
Reflection:
- do I fit into God’s story, and how?
- do the choices I make resemble one who is made by God, and distinctively in his image?
- what are my tasks that God is giving me to spread Eden?
