We are going through the book of Thessalonians in the Overflow group (High School Youth), and we discussed this past week 1:3, which is, “ work by faith, labor by love, endurance by hope.”
Now, that is a reoccurrence of that conjunction–faith, hope, and love–as seen in other spots within the Bible, but Paul incorporates it here into the rhythm of the life of the Thessalonian believers. We have such competition in our worlds today as the Thessalonians did in Paul’s day.
Competing liturgies, empires, & rhythms beckon our time and energy, but they are dead. Paul says you have turned from idols (dead things) to the living God (paraphrase of 1:9).
Pray for our youth in Overflow, but not just them, but also our JAM and Seedling groups (Middle School & Elementary). For them to find that rhythm for their lives, and for us to build in our connections with these families and with the community of these kids.
