Thanks to a great team of people who showed up last Saturday to do clean-up and other tasks in and around the church building. There was a lot of elbow grease being put into action, and good fellowship too. Thanks to all who came.
This edition of TMG may seem like an extension of that workday, because on the surface it seems like mostly housekeeping stuff. But at its core is a desire for good fellowship and effective ministry in and around Emmanuel. Keep reading, and thank you !
All-Church Picnic, June 22
Please join the church family on Sunday, June 22, after worship for a great time of food, fun, and fellowship … including kayaking, paddleboat, swimming, croquet, badminton, and red-neck golf (!). We’ll gather at 1257 Black Forest Drive West, in Hermann. Lunch will be served potluck style from 12:30 – 1:30. Brats and pulled pork will be provided, … but we need you to bring part of the meal too ! Please click on the following link to find out more, including what you can bring for the meal : https://www.smore.com/app/pages/preview/7xdgx
Look for the posters at the church too ! It’s going to be a great time !
From the Steward Committee : Caring for our Building & Property
We are blessed at Emmanuel to have a fantastic facility, furnishings, and equipment, all of which are relatively new and are gifts to us from the Lord through the generous giving of His people. Most recently, we are blessed to have a new He-brews Café welcome center to meet each other and to receive visitors to the church. A huge thank you to all who had a vision, organized, and worked to make He-brews Café what it is.
We have an unwritten rule at Emmanuel of leaving the church as you found it. Unfortunately, there has been a recent increase of children and young people using rooms at the church and leaving them in disarray. Two weeks ago one of the classrooms was left in such a mess that our cleaning crew was not able to clean the room due to the clutter. As a result, closets in classrooms have now been locked and will only be accessible through Pastor Jeff. Similarly, the nursery will be locked during the week, and use of the nursery must be scheduled through Allison Roth.
If you use the church building for Bible study, discipleship, music practice, or any other activity during the week or weekend, please be aware of where your children are and what they are doing. Make sure any rooms that have been used are cleaned up. We frequently have visitors at the church during the week, and we would like for them to have a great first impression of the church.
Finally, children should not be on the stage, behind the stage, or in the audio/visual booth without the approval of the Essence (worship planning) team.
Thank you so much for your cooperation in this !
From the Elders : Good Communication at Emmanuel
We are fortunate to be a vibrant church with lots of activity going on ! As a result, there’s a lot of “stuff” that’s needed to be communicated, sometimes to the entire church family and sometimes to individuals within the church family.
In an effort to do our best at communicating information … and at the same time not overly burden the church family with announcements … would you please respect the following :
If you have a church ministry-related announcement to communicate to the family, please communicate that to Rebecca Gaus no later than Thursday for inclusion in the bulletin the following Sunday. Rebecca can be reached by email at . The advantage of this is that your information can be preserved – people can take their bulletin home and have a hard copy to refer to during the week of what’s going on at Emmanuel. (Reminder : Your first step for communicating an announcement is to put it in the bulletin. The deadline for the bulletin is Thursday.)
Verbal announcements prior to worship on Sunday will be made from the bulletin at the discretion of the person giving the announcements. Please do not come on Sundays with a verbal announcement to submit prior to worship. Too many verbal announcements at the start of the worship service eventually distract us from the real purpose for which we are there. In addition, this is a courtesy to the person giving the announcements, for whom Sunday morning is also a time of worship, not church business. (Reminder : Your responsibility for your announcement is to get it into the bulletin by Thursday – .)
Other ways you may communicate information :
I am happy to include church-related ministry information in the TMG.
There is a church facebook page many at Emmanuel use to communicate information. Talk with John Gloe if you are unfamiliar with that.
Make use of the bulletin board between the Conference Room and kitchen to post any personal or community events you would like. Sunday’s bulletin will be used only for church-sponsored activities and, if space permits, other ministry events being led by or involving the family at Emmanuel. Weddings, birthday parties, social events, etc, can be posted on the bulletin board.
If you have questions about communicating your ministry-related information, please don’t hesitate to contact one of the elders : Missions & Outreach – Scott Parker ; Worship – Tom Rea ; Youth & Family Ministry – Jeff Roth ; Spiritual Formation & Discipleship – Chris Neale ; Support Ministries – Mike Mahoney ; Fellowship & Sticky Groups – Jeremy Talley.
Thank you !
Organizing for the Fall
Ministry team leaders, be sure to put July 30, 6 pm, on your calendar for our next Staff Meeting. It will be important to bring with you to that meeting an outline of your plans for fall ministry. Thank you !
Rejoicing and Weeping
Our hearts go out to Becky and Steve Aldrich and to Becky’s family at the passing of Becky’s dad this past week. Also to Mike and Brandy Bristow at the passing of Mike’s aunt.
We rejoice with the Padgett family at the marriage this coming weekend of Jessica to Ryan Hall. Congratulations, and our prayers are with you !
This Sunday we will start a summer sermon series, “In a Nutshell.” We’ll be distilling some biblical topics down to their very essence.
Jesus “in a nutshell”.
Satan “in a nutshell”.
Miracles “in a nutshell”.
Discipleship “in a nutshell”.
Hope “in a nutshell”.
Thanksgiving “in a nutshell”
Money “in a nutshell”, etc.
Hope to see you this Sunday as we get down to the very basics about who Jesus is.
